Why we rebuilt the builder canvas

A form builder should show you the form. Here is why the 2.1 canvas renders real styles, and what that changed for layouts.

Before 2.1, the builder showed a simplified version of each field. It was quick to build, but it meant switching to a preview to see what visitors would actually get.

The problem with previews

Every trip to a preview breaks your flow. Styling especially suffered: you would change a radius, open the preview, go back, and repeat.

What changed

The canvas now renders each field with the form’s real styles: colors, radius, spacing and the filled, outlined or underlined input variant. Selecting a field still shows its settings on the right, the same way blocks work in the WordPress editor.

Layouts came for free

Once the canvas showed real fields, side-by-side layouts became natural. Field widths let you place fields on a row and see the result immediately, instead of describing it in settings.

Built to feel like WordPress

We matched the WordPress 7 admin’s type, spacing and controls, so the builder feels like part of your site rather than a separate app. Let us know what you think at support@subtleforms.com.
